So lately I've been looking for a bait that will meet all my needs. Local or free delivery. Matching pellet, soak/glug and pop ups and I found it in DNA baits!
Now I must say that a good mate of mine does produce his own boilies and they are great. Pro-active pineapple with a few edges and tweaks. It is a good bait but I need a good fish meal bait for my lake up in York. The lake is very silty and full of bream. The bait range that DNA produce are some of the best fish meals on the market! Their new and no doubt flagship bait The S7 has everything that I think the Shipton carp could want. It has a unique and amazing smell, I get a Krill and Orange and even Chocolate smell from it. It will rise above the lake bed smell and hopefully drag the fish down and get them feeding.
I plan on doing a winter campaign on the lake with quite a heavy baiting approach as I want the carp to get some bait before the bream muller it all. Hopefully get the rods out for a few hours while I am there as well but I'm not holding my breathe for countless carp runs!
So in closing DNA have it all from pellet to stick mix, spod mixes (coming soon) and of course the boilie. Without a doubt one of the Norths best bait companies. https://www.dnabaits.com
Welcome to The Hobo Carper. A blog born of my love of writing and angling. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do writing it.

Hi Folks
Hey all, well welcome to my blog. I intend on keeping this as upto date as possible but knowing me and my ways I'll forget to update it regular. Hopefully though I will keep it up to date and share the next few years with who ever is willing to read it.
First up I would like to start of by saying I want to keep this as 'Light Hearted' as possible and while the hard hitting topics out there, illegal fish moving & stockings, Otters and poachers are issues I follow I would like to keep this blog as much fishing orientated as possible. So on with it.
Why the Hobo Carper, well it's a bit of a joke between me and the wife. I used to keep threatening to grow a Hobo beard, well no more threats! That and usually my swim looks like a tip!
Yeah I've not been carping long but I feel that I have progressed and gained enough experience now to jot down my thoughts on rigs, baits and all things carpy. This will serve as a diary of sorts and something for me to reflect on as well as hopefully be informative for others.
My bank time this year has been somewhat limited and what spare time I have had has been given to volunteering as a marshal for the BCAC and UKCC qualifiers and finals around the country. For any new to the sport and wanting to improve on their carp fishing then this is one of the best ways you can learn. Watching various anglers of all different abilities and styles compete and work hard for every bite under the stress of a competion is a great learning curve and I'm glad I did it. And will still do it as it's not only improving my fishing but a great weekend with some great guys! Organizing the marshals is Chris 'Bonesy' Holmes who is an epic guy and you can learn so much from him. So give it a go you have nothing to lose. I will defiantly be going back to do it next year when i'm not competing.
What fishing time I have had this year has been spent mostly on small day ticket waters. One little pond in particular has been producing regular for me and on one rainy afternoon I had the best short session for a long time, six carp in five hours topped by an impressive 21lb 9oz Common. Was a day to remember that's for sure and it was also the first time that I had tried DNA Baits. Taking with me the NuttaS in 18mm rounds and 18x22mm dumbells.
So I've done a few sessions there and a few overnighters at A1 pits and Selby Three Lakes before finally getting round to purchasing my club ticket for a lake in York called Shipton. It's a picturesque water about 3 acres in size with tons of features. Big beds of lillys, bars, snags and overhanging trees. It holds a good head of carp to about 29lb with around five over 25lb. It also holds some big bream which have breamed me out every session so far but never mind I don't mind catching them when they are 6lb and more!
I've finally got my order in for some of DNA's latest offering and can't wait to get to my new water and get some in as they are notorious for having a liking for fishmeal boilies!
So not a massive year for carp captures other than the big Common but I'm determined that this winter and next spring will be productive, with a few trips to Ladywoods planned and my supply of S7 for Shipton who knows what might grace my landing net!
Till next time.
Keep em slack!
